But despite the growing numbers in Sydney, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian reckons she was blindsided by QLD's decision, saying she had "no prior notice".
Today, NSW had 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 with most linked to the clusters at the Thai Rock restaurant in Wetherill Park and in Potts Point.
Ms Palaszczuk said an additional 31 areas across Greater Sydney will be added to the declared hotspot list from 1am on Saturday.
"I would advise Queenslanders at the moment not to travel to New South Wales", Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Tuesday.
However the new border restrictions will prevent players from flying home to Sydney between matches.
From Saturday at 1am, no one travelling from Greater Sydney will be allowed into Queensland.
Ms Palaszczuk said while she knew it would inconvenience families, it had to be done.
