Ahmaud Arbery: Three men indicted for killing Black man

The incident in Brunswick was captured on a video, drawing a national outcry.

"This is another step forward in seeking justice for Ahmaud", said Cobb County District Attorney Joyette M. Holmes.

Gregory McMichael told officers that he thought Arbery looked like a person suspected in a series of recent break-ins in the area, according to the report.

According to a breaking news report from NBC News, 64-year-old Gregory McMichael, his 34-year-old son, Travis McMichael, and 50-year-old William "Roddie" Bryan were all charged with malice and felony murder in the February 23 killing of Arbery.

"The family of Ahmaud Arbery is determined to see these men prosecuted, convicted and appropriately sentenced for the brutal hate crime that took Ahmaud's life over four months ago", said Lee Merritt, the lead attorney for the Arbery family.

Investigators said they believed Bryan used his vehicle to try to "confine and detain" Arbery multiple times in the minutes leading to Arbery's death, an arrest warrant says.

Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, have been charged with murder in the February shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.

Lawyers for the Mr McMichaels have cautioned against a rush to judgement and have said the full story will come out in court.

Bryan, who recorded the deadly encounter and is also the McMicahels' neighbor, was arrested two weeks later, after he initially attempted to distance himself from the shooting.

The parents of a black man killed in a pursuit by two white men armed with guns called for immediate arrests Wednesday as they faced the prospect of waiting a month or longer before a Georgia grand jury could consider bringing charges.

Travis and Greg McMichael and William Bryant face nine charges which include malice murder and felony murder.

A charge of malice murder for all three men likely means the grand jury believes all of them showed an "abandoned and malignant heart" in carrying out a killing, according to the Georgia state Code.

Kevin Gough, Bryan's lawyer, told reporters that the indictment was "an important step in the process to moving this case closer to the speedy trial that Roddie has demanded".
