India has recorded 2,76,583 cases of the novel coronavirus and 7,745 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry's latest update.

According to the health bulletin, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi rose to 31,309 with 1,366 fresh cases. The health department said that there were 18,543 active cases with 11,861 patients having recovered from the virus.

Facing criticism for "under reporting" COVID-19 deaths, the Delhi government recently issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the city on reporting fatalities due to coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the ministry said that high-level multi-disciplinary central teams have been deployed in over 50 districts and municipal bodies spread across 15 states and UTs, witnessing a spurt in coronavirus cases, to assist local administrations in containment and management of COVID-19 outbreak there. During the last 24 hours, 279 deaths have been registered taking the nationwide toll to 7,745. The data is supposed to be released at noon daily.

Only US with highest cases of 2,045,549, Brazil (742,084), Russian Federation (485,253), United Kingdom (289,140) and Spain (289,046) are ahead of India. For the first time, the total number of recovered patients has exceeded the active cases.

But the European Central Bank also warned it expects the region's economy to shrink 8.7% this year due to the pandemic. The yield on the 10-year Treasury surged 10.24% to 0.904% while yield on the 30-year Treasury jumped 3.33% to 1.678%.

Within India, Maharashtra alone has more cases than China, which officially reported little over 83,000 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths.

Tamil Nadu that trails behind Maharashtra at the second spot in terms of the total number of cases too has a high recovery rate at 52.4 per cent and has fewer active cases in comparison to those that have already been cured.

It's fifth in the world for total confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The Delhi government has also decided to make oxygen facility available on all hospital beds in designated COVID-19 government hospitals, considering the "surge" in cases. He added that 4,200 beds are now vacant but the state will need nearly 1.5 lakh beds by the end of July. Maldives now has 1,942 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The teams will undertake visit to the cities mentioned within the next one week to review public health measures being undertaken for COVID-19.
