United States first daughter Ivanka's assistant contracts coronavirus

The diagnosis of Pence's spokesperson comes a day after news that Trump's personal valet had tested positive for the virus, raising alarm about its potential spread within the White House's inner most circle.

During a roundtable on Friday, Donald Trump revealed that "Katie" in Pence's office had tested positive.

Ivanka Trump's personal assistant also tested positive for coronavirus, a source familiar told CNN on Friday night, although she has been teleworking for almost two months and has not been around the President's daughter in several weeks. The White House stated that both Pence and Trump continue to test negative for the disease.

"She hasn't come into contact with me", the president added.

Meanwhile, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn - who tested negative Friday, nevertheless plans to self-quarantine for two weeks after coming into contact with an aide to Vice President Mike Pence, according to Politico.

Valets are members of an elite military unit and often work very close to the president and the first family.

"Katie, she tested very good for a long period of time and then all of a sudden today she tested positive", Mr Trump said, noting that he himself had not been in contact with her but that she had spent time with the vice president.

On Friday Trump attended an event to mark the anniversary of VE Day, and neither he nor first lady Melania Trump wore a mask.

The news of Mrs Miller's positive diagnosis comes as the U.S. president boosts the re-opening of the economy in more than a dozen American states.

"We went back and looked into all the person's contacts most recently", a senior official told reporters.

Miller has led the communications response for the White House coronavirus task force.

Afterward, scores of Secret Service agents and officers, along with administration staffers, were seen filing into a makeshift testing facility on the White House campus to be tested themselves. Health experts have warned that reopening too quickly could result in a potential rebound in cases.
