Former Hollywood producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein was been charged on Friday with a new sex crime in Los Angeles. The new fees allege Weinstein sexually assaulted a girl on May 11, 2010, at a Beverly Hills lodge.

It is believed the victim was interviewed back in October 2019 over the alleged incident, but Weinstein has now been charged for it after information was provided in March 2020 to confirm it fell within the last 10 years, as if it happened over a decade ago, there is a statute of limitation preventing charges to be brought against someone. But given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it's not immediately clear how the timeline of his case in L.A. will be altered.

The D.A.'s office was investigating two other allegations against Weinstein, but declined to file those charges because the alleged victims did not want to testify.

On Jan. 6, the LA DA's office charged Weinstein with raping one woman and sexually assaulting another in separate incidents over a two-day period in 2013. The former producer is serving a 23-year sentence in a prison near Buffalo, N.Y., for rape and sexual assault.

"We are continuing to build and strengthen our case", said Los Angeles prosecutor Jackie Lacey. "As we gather corroborating evidence, we have reached out to other possible sexual assault victims", she said in a statement.

Harvey Weinstein, 68, has repeatedly maintained his innocence in the past.

The original charges also stem from incidents at hotels in the Los Angeles area, all with different women. "I don't know the exact status of his medical condition", Arthur Aidala, a lawyer for Weinstein, told Reuters on Thursday.
