Amazon is postponing its major summer shopping event, Prime Day, until at least August and expects a potential $100 million hit from excess devices it might now sell at a discount, according to internal meeting notes seen by Reuters.
The document separately indicated that Amazon is investigating the possibility of screening more than one person at a time for the virus, and it also plans to partner with a medical organization in its testing efforts.
Though the Reuters report didn't specify a cause, the delay is most likely due to the coronavirus outbreak, which has driven people indoors and led to such an increase in online shopping that Amazon Prime deliveries may be delayed.
Amazon isn't the only company that discounts devices on Prime Day.

The coronavirus has put a strain on Amazon's supply chain and other operations, as it scrambles to prioritise the shipment of "essential" items during the pandemic.
That number could even be as high as $ 300 million, according to Amazon General Council reports in the document seen by Reuters, and could make the brand need to alter its promotion schedule.
