Will he, won't he? Sporting Lisbon and Man Utd wrangle over big-money Bruno Fernandes move

Bruno Fernandes" reported move to Manchester United is "on the brink of collapse', with reports claiming that Sporting Lisbon have significantly upped their asking price for the midfielder.

United are understood to have bid around £40m for Fernandes, which was dismissed by Sporting, but are ready to return with a bid of £46.78m, which could rise to £55m with add-ons.

According to Sky Sports News, Bruno Fernandes has boldly expressed his intention to transfer to United and his present club Sporting is reportedly open on granting the 25-year-old's last-ditch wish to join the English football club when the said talks resume.

As a result, Sporting Lisbon's assistant coach Emanuel Ferro has publicly stated his belief that Fernandes will still be at the club beyond the end of January - a group he suggested is shared by the squad.

"We understand the ambition of the player, who prefers to play in a league superior to ours".

On the back of widespread links to the Premier League last summer, the 25-year-old has again been hotly-tipped to make his way to England since the opening of the winter transfer window.

The Portuguese midfielder has been embroiled in a transfer saga this January window that has been going on for too long for anyone's liking.

It was reported by Sky Sports on Friday that Manchester United were close to agreeing a deal worth around £60 million (€70m) for the Portugal global, £43m (€50m) being paid upfront, and the remainder being paid in add-ons.

"We will try to keep him for more games, but it is not up to us".

United started negotiations for Fernandes two weeks ago after injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba forced the club to act to support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market.

Sporting are fourth in the table and Fernandes' eight goals in 16 league appearances have been vital to his side's push for a top-four finish this season. So far we don't know, nor does Bruno know.
