The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday issued an advisory for travelers visiting China in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus outbreak in the neighbouring country.

The WHO on Thursday stated that not enough is known about the novel coronavirus to draw definitive conclusions about how it is transmitted, clinical features of disease, or the extent to which it has spread.

There are also concerns that the disease could spread across China and internationally.

The new coronavirus, which causes cold-like symptoms including a runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat and a fever, has never been seen before and has not yet been named. Those with symptoms will be asked additional health- and exposure-related questions, and those needing more followup will be referred to a designated health care facility for more testing.

Local authorities said a 69-year-old man died on Wednesday in Wuhan, the central Chinese city believed to be the epicentre of an outbreak of a coronavirus from the same family as the deadly Sars pathogen.

Chinese health officials said many of those who became sick worked at or visited a food market in the suburbs of Wuhan.

Three other cases were detected in Thailand and Japan with authorities in both countries saying the patients had visited Wuhan prior to their hospitalisations.

On Friday morning, Thailand said that a 74-year-old Chinese woman had been confirmed to be infected - the second case found in the country, following the discovery of the first case on Monday.

No human-to-human transmission of the virus behind the Wuhan outbreak has been confirmed so far, but the health commission has said the possibility "cannot be excluded".

As of yesterday, two Chinese persons were killed while more than 40 had fallen ill owing to the wide-spreading coronavirus.

"It's so unusual", wrote a web user on the social media platform Weibo, citing the overseas cases in Japan and Thailand.

The WMHC referred Reuters queries about the report to the National Health Commission (NHC) and the Hubei provincial government, but the NHC and the Hubei government did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Around 44 suspected cases were reported in the month of December.

Officials in China have linked the viral infections to a Wuhan seafood and wildlife market, which has been closed since January 1 to prevent further spread of the illness.

Some of the types of this virus are less serious and some are more severe, which can even cause Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The agency said that it may adjust screening procedures and other response activities as additional information is gathered about the new virus.
