Christopher was the third son of our beloved author Professor J.R.R. Tolkien, and had spent much of his life honoring his father's legacy and bringing us so numerous Professor's works posthumously.

Christopher passed away at the age of 95 and this news has been confirmed through a short statement released by the Tolkien society on their official Twitter handle. "The Tolkien Society sends its deepest condolences to Baillie, Simon, Adam, Rachel and the whole Tolkien family".

Born in Leeds, U.K., on November 21, 1924, Christopher Tolkien became one of the earliest audience members for The Hobbit as a child. "After the war, he finished his studies and became a lecturer in Old and Middle English as well as Old Icelandic at the University of Oxford", the Tolkien Society said.

He later became the literary executor of the Tolkien Estate, completing several books set in the world of Middle-earth using his father's material from 70 boxes of unpublished work.

Notable works Tolkien edited include The Children Of Hurin, and Beren And Luthien, which flesh out the complex world of elves and dwarves created by his father.

Christopher - who drew numerous original Middle Earth maps for the Lord of the Rings series - received a Bodley Medal from the University of Oxford's Bodleian Libraries in 2016, which goes to "individuals who have made outstanding contributions..." He passed in Provence, France at age 95, according to his brother-in-law and the Tolkien Society.
