Rush Drummer Neil Peart Dies at 67: Reports

Legendary drummer Neil Peart of Rush has died at the age of 67, according to the CBC and Rolling Stone.

Peart died in Santa Monica, California, on Tuesday after a battling brain cancer for several years, the spokesman, Elliot Mintz, told CNN.

"We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family's need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and hard time".

During adolescence, he floated between regional bands in pursuit of a career as a full-time drummer, joining local TORONTO band, RUSH, in the summer of 1974.

Rush has enjoyed considerable success in both the USA and Canada. Together with with singer-bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson he created some of the most seminal albums in progressive rock including 2112 and Moving Pictures. Rush went on to produce 10 platinum albums in the United States from 1975 through 1981.

He's survived by his wife Carrie and daughter, Olivia Louise. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer hall of fame in 1983, making him the youngest ever honouree.
