Bianca Andreescu out of New Zealand Open due to 'knee issues'

Bianca Andreescu withdraws from Auckland Open due to knee injury

The US Open champion was supposed to start her 2020 season at the event in two weeks time, but the lingering knee injury she suffered at the WTA Finals limited her off-season training.

The Canadian sensation started her triumphant 2019 in that very tournament New Zealand past year after she reached the final coming from the qualifications and beating Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki on the way. She spent almost seven weeks off the court after her knee gave way during the WTA Finals in Shenzhen in early November, but told reporters earlier this month she did not need surgery and was "just trying to rehab as much as possible and stay as positive as I can".

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam victor, has not played doubles with anyone other than her sister Venus since the Fed Cup World Group playoff in 2015.

Bianca later won three titles, including the US Open. Would she be even more dominant? She has the power play to hang with the big hitters and uses different spins and points to her advantage.
