Lab-confirmed flu cases rose almost 70 percent in San Diego County last week as flu season continues to ramp up, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday. The New Mexico Health Department said usually, only 50% of New Mexicans get flu shots.
"We use a threshold of 5% absenteeism, and we're seeing much higher levels than that", said Kris Ehresmann, director of the state Health Department's infectious disease division.
The season had started earlier than recent post-2009-pandemic years and has seen the influenza B strain predominating, which is unusual early in a flu season. The State Health Department has reported that so far, the 2019-'20 influenza season has resulted in 69 CT residents being hospitalized and two deaths due to the flu.
Typically flu season peaks in New Jersey in January or February.
The County Health and Human Services Agency publishes the Influenza Watch weekly report, which tracks key flu indicators and summarizes influenza surveillance in the region.
