The sequel of the hit Disney classic also set a November record for an opening of an animated film.

The film had the third-best opening weekend for an animated film behind Pixar's Finding Dory (£104 million), and The Incredibles 2 (£141 million). It also notched the biggest opening weekend ever for Walt Disney Animation, and is the first animated movie to bring in a triple digit opening outside of a summer weekend. That is almost double of the original film's 67.3 million dollar opening, showing the growing strength of this film's dedicated fanbase.

Dergarabedian added that the film was able to deliver family-friendly entertainment to "an enthusiastic global audience on an advantageous release date", which helped solidify Disney's position as the highest-grossing studio this year. The film has already passed the box office result from the original's first five days in theatres and may pass the total sum of a global $1.3 billion that the predecessor made.

Frozen 2 raised $127 million domestically this past weekend, according to estimates from Comscore, and some $223 million overseas.

Making Frozen 2 was always going to happen.

Evaluations and viewers response have been good for "Frozen 2", however not as sturdy as they have been for the unique.

LA Clippers' 'Big Two' debut in OT win over Boston Celtics
George made his Clippers debut last Thursday (last Friday, PHL time) at New Orleans and has played three games without Leonard. Not a huge lead by any means, but at the rate LA was scoring in this game, it felt like they had a mountain to climb.

Matching that total gross won't be easy sledding, but "Frozen 2" has a head start.

In a recent interview, Kristen Bell confirmed that filmmakers Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck had Frozen II's ending in mind from the start, and filled in the other moving pieces as the movie went along. That was roughly on the right track for the Sony Footage launch, which price about $25 million to make.

Last week's top film, "Ford v Ferrari" slipped to a distant second with $16 million. It sees the return of Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff, as they venture beyond the kingdom of Arendelle to find out why Elsa was born with magical powers.

In third is Sony/TriStar's "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood", which is hitting the upper end of box office projections with an estimated $14 million opening from 3,235 screens.

STX's "21 Bridges", a suspense thriller starring Chadwick Boseman, followed behind at No. 4 with $9.2 million from 2,665 venues.
