Could the San Francisco 49ers seriously start the season off 3-0?

With Roethlisberger out for the year, the Steelers need Conner to take the pressure off Mason Rudolph. Pittsburgh has struggled big time on defense through two games.

The 37-year-old Super Bowl champion said he felt like he was "letting so many people down" after news broke Monday that he would undergo surgery on his right elbow and be placed on the injured list, just two weeks into his 16th season with the Steelers.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, Conner is unsure if he'll practice on Wednesday, but he's confident he'll play on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

He is known as the first player to take a knee during the National Anthem, allegedly in protest of police treatment of suspects and road stops on minorities.

When Devlin Hodges signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted rookie four months ago, the former Samford star was fourth on the National Football League team's quarterback depth chart, behind 15-year starter Ben Roethlisberger, 2017 draft choice Josh Dobbs and 2018 draft choice Mason Rudolph. Williams, Conner and Chickillo all suffered their injuries in the same game.
